7.12.10 Summer Studio Portfolio – Media Arts & Animation

I present the Media Arts & Animation class final, an animated music video for Yesterday. This turned out to be one of my favorite projects of the week. Great job.

7.08.10 Media Arts & Animation Closing the Gap

Media Arts & Animation

When we arrived at the Media Art & Animation class they were busy working on finishing up their cells. Some students had already finished and others were putting the finishing touches on the work. It was cool to see all the different works in progress because many of the students were working in different mediums.

Media Arts & Animation

Their instructor, Kimberly, was photographing some of the cells and preparing the individual projects to be edited together. We got to see some of the finished sections. It was exciting to see the whole animation process laid out in front of us and Kellee was really jazzed to see how the students had interpreted her song.

7.07.10 Media Arts & Animation Progress Continues

On Tuesday when I learned that the Animation students were going to create an animated music video to Yesterday I was a little skeptical. Knowing how much work goes into any animation project I knew that this class would have to be on the ball and motivated to complete a three minute video. So when I showed up to check on their progress I was amazed to see how well it was going.

Media Arts & Animation

Each student is taking a piece of the song  and animating it as they interpret the lyrics. Some are working in groups on larger sections and other are working independently. They are working in the cell animation lab using traditional 2D pencil and paper cell animation techniques. Because most animation is 3D now-a-days I was very interested to see the cells.

6.28.10 Kellee meets Media Arts & Animation

Our final stop for Tuesday was Media Arts & Animation. The students here are planning to animate one of Kellee’s songs, Yesterday. Directed by instructor Kimberly Mcmahon this group was off to the races already having planned out their section of the song, storyboards, and first cell sketches. I was thoroughly impressed to see such productivity.

The students had an opportunity to interview Kellee similarly to the Graphic Design and Advertising class. This was a great experience for the students as they had a chance to ask Kellee about her favorite colors, influences and other visual elements about herself. I was impressed to see how closely they paid attention because a lot of those details appeared in the final video.

After leaving the class I was really excited to see their final product come together.
